Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Service details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Government Adjustments
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on television.
Attorney general the attorney general informed the program that she aimed to speak to the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with distinction, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
