The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
