Tel Aviv Local Rivalry Cancelled Following Serious Unrest

The domestic football league derby involving one local team and their city rivals was abandoned ahead of commencement on Sunday, following what police labeled as "civil unrest and serious disturbances".
"Many of smoke grenades and fireworks were thrown," law enforcement stated on online platforms, noting "this cannot be considered a match, it represents unrest and major hostilities".
A dozen individuals and several officers were hurt, officials confirmed, while several individuals were taken into custody and numerous others held for interrogation.
The disturbances come just a short time after representatives in the UK announced that supporters of the team cannot be permitted to attend the international tournament game at Aston Villa in England the following month because of public safety worries.
The local club censured the game abandonment, alleging authorities of "getting ready for a battle, not a sporting event", even during meetings in the lead-up to the eagerly-awaited encounter.
"The disturbing situations outside the arena and after the reckless and outrageous judgment not to hold the match only demonstrate that the law enforcement has seized authority in the football," Hapoel Tel Aviv said in a statement.
The other team has not yet commented, only acknowledging the game was called off.
The ruling by the local safety committee to prohibit club followers from the English fixture on the sixth of November has sparked widespread criticism.
The British authorities has subsequently stated it is working to overturn the restriction and exploring what extra measures might be required to guarantee the match can be conducted securely.
Aston Villa notified their security personnel that they could choose not to participate at the match, stating they recognized that some "could be worried".
On the previous day, law enforcement stated it backed the ban and designated the game as "potentially dangerous" according to reports and past events.
That encompassed "physical confrontations and bigotry-related acts" between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv fans before a match in the Netherlands in late 2024, when over sixty individuals were taken into custody.
There have been demonstrations at several games concerning the situation in Gaza, including when Israel competed against the Scandinavian team and Italy in current international matches.
