Red Cross Accompanies Hamas in Search for Bodies of Captives in Gaza Strip

A Red Cross official stated that its personnel accompanied members of Hamas into areas of Gaza currently controlled by IDF control to support the search for the bodies of Israeli hostages.

Under the US-brokered ceasefire, which began on 10 October, the group is obligated to hand over the remains of all Israeli hostages as soon as possible. In exchange, Israel has agreed to transfer the remains of 15 Palestinians for each Israeli.

She continued: “The parties to the conflict determined the procedures of the mission and delegated the ICRC to act as a neutral intermediary. We was not involved in those negotiations.”

She additionally explained: “The ICRC was did not participate in the search for the deceased nor does it engage in the retrieval of human remains.”
