The state AG has rolled out a new digital platform encouraging residents to submit images and footage of federal immigration enforcement around the state. This step follows a shortly after a significant ICE raid shook Chinatown in Manhattan, prompting widespread protests.

American Citizens Held During Enforcement Action

A lawmaker revealed during a Wednesday press conference that four US citizens were arrested and detained for "about 24 hours" after the previous day's operation. Demonstrations erupted in NYC on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

"Each citizen is entitled to live without fear," the attorney general declared in a release.

"For those who saw and recorded federal operations recently, I urge you to provide that evidence with my office. We are pledged to examining these submissions and investigating any legal breaches."

Submission Process

The platform offers fields to submit images and video footage of the raid, plus a field to note where it occurred. When submitting, individuals must check a box that states that "authorities may use any documents, photographs, or videos in a public document, such as in a legal proceeding or government document."

Details of the ICE Action

The Chinatown raid, which observers say featured more than 50 government officers, occurred in a famous district of Manhattan where imitation products and merchandise are regularly available in large quantities – typically to sightseers.

Footage of Tuesday's raid depict multiple hooded and equipped officers zip-tying and detaining a individual, and shoving away onlookers. Throngs of residents trailed the officers along the roads. An military-style transport was observed traveling down the Manhattan avenues.

Leadership Statements

At a midweek briefing organized with the New York immigrant rights coalition, congressman Dan Goldman, a lawmaker, said that four US citizens were taken by federal agents for almost a full day and that there were "no circumstances where nationals should be arrested for unjustly." He said the individuals were let go on Wednesday with no charges filed.

"The goal is evident here. It is not about removing offenders," he stated. "This constitutes a armed campaign to provoke unrest. It is merely a excuse to generate turmoil for federal officials to deploy the military to prevent unrest that they themselves caused."
