Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

New York police released video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.

“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
