Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
