Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
