Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, the city, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd choose in that moment except for Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Wilson stated "certainly that it's going to sting" in the wake of his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he remarked.

The Blue Jays won the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
