American Military Executes Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities
According to a high-ranking defense official, the American armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was transiting along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”
Context and Recent Actions
This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military presence.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Scrutiny
The administration has faced growing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs headed to the US, comments from a top official seemed to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This suggests the military campaign may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
